Our favorite vacation memories often revolve around the food we devour during our time on the road, making us think about that street corner in Paris where we devoured that Nutella and banana crepe, the food truck in Phoenix serving the best tacos ever, and the barbecue we enjoyed during our Texas trip of a lifetime every time we remember each place we visited. Your journey to Steamboat Springs will offer many meal memories as well, each day filled with adventure and deliciousness and ending with comfort and luxury when you return home to your Grand Adventure Company Colorado retreat. This guide to an epicurean journey will explore the different restaurants in Steamboat Springs that are sure to be your second favorite part of your vacation adventures.
Day 1: All Day Breakfast Is a Good Thing
We’ve been told our entire life that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and as you start out a morning of mountain fun with a good meal, you may find yourself wanting to come back for breakfast at lunch as well. If the meal is so important, maybe we should enjoy breakfast at every meal, are we right?
Creekside Café & Grill, located at 131 11th Street seems to agree, serving your favorite meal from 7 AM until 2 PM every day of the week, and although they do also offer lunch foods including burgers, and sandwiches, the breakfast menu is definitely much more intriguing. Featuring a variety of Benedicts, griddle goodies, classic breakfasts and more, if your day’s adventures are going to take you to the slopes of Steamboat Ski Resort, we suggest starting your morning with their Patterson Barn Burner—homemade biscuits, bacon, and cheddar, breakfast potatoes, eggs, all of which are smothered in sausage gravy.
Day 2: Midday Meal Before the Hot Springs
Strawberry Park Natural Hot Springs offers a water adventure that will be much appreciated after the cold involved with a morning on the slopes, but first, the midday meal needs to be addressed. Don’t forget you can always go back to Creekside Café & Grill for their all-day breakfast, but if you think lunch should have lunch food, the Back Door Grill, 825 Oak Street, is famed for their plate-sized burgers built to conquer the morning ski slopes hole in your belly. Offering a casual vibe and walls papered in signed dollar bills, every guest feels comfortable and at home while devouring juicy burgers and hand cut fries.
Day 3: Après Ski Anyone?
Although it is often the beverages you consume that seem to be of most importance when it comes to après ski, even if you ate a large lunch, you will probably be more than a bit hungry when you sit down for après ski at the end of your ski journey, and The Paramount, found at
1875 Ski Times Square (slopeside), entices you to enjoy a tasty breakfast dish or artisan sandwich as you sip a refreshing cocktail and relish being off your feet without sitting in snow for a lovely change of pace. There is a popular mountainside patio, but if you are tired of the cold, there is also plenty of seating inside where it is warm and dry.
Day 4: Family Dinner
Although Steamboat Springs is known primarily as a ski town, there are other activities that can be enjoyed with the kiddos including the Steamboat Howler Alpine Slide (open in the summer only). Gravity determines how fast you will go down the mountain with this cool roller coaster, and after a fun afternoon flying down the track, everyone will be ready for a hearty Italian dinner from Mazzola’s Italian restaurant, located at 917 Bristol Avenue. Pizza is probably going to be what’s on your table, as we have never known a child to turn down a slice, and their authentic and hearty pasta dishes or chicken parmesan will surely satisfy the adults in your group.
Day 5: A Meal to Remember
For many, a vacation in Steamboat is used as a way to celebrate a special occasion, and every special occasion deserves a meal to remember, something easily found at Harwig’s, located at 911 Lincoln Avenue. Offering a locally sourced menu of French inspired favorites and a wine list designed to perfectly pair with the dishes you choose, your night out will be one that you will celebrate over and over in your memories when you are forced to return to real life and real responsibilities. Plan an evening of culture with a meal at Harwig’s followed by a night at the Strings Music Center, where the best live performances in town take place!
