Your daylight adventures outside your Grand Adventure Company winter retreats are sure to be filled with everything exciting and exhilarating, and while you are shoop, shoop, shooping down the slopes or are cutting into that 12-ounce bison strip you ordered at Aurum Food & Wine, in the back of your mind you will be thinking about home. Our homes, to be more precise, patiently wait for your return, understanding that without you, they are nothing more than some wood, stone, and glass, obviously having no purpose in life.
Your most comfortable and luxurious adventures will come to life immediately after the door to your retreat swings open for the very first time. Step inside the warmth and out of the cold, following the paths of wood floors into rooms filled with luxury amenities, and find yourself wishing you never had to leave again. You have found your happy place, and oh, how comfortable it is!
A Fire in the Fireplace
Almost every living room (and some bedrooms) will feature a stone fireplace as the focal point. Some may be gas capable of igniting with just a flick of the switch, and others will be traditional woodburning ones, making you feel like a pioneer father as you stack the wood, the kindling, and then touch the match to it, watching the flames begin to take hold. Maybe you will throw a winter picnic in front of that fire, spreading a blanket out on the floor next to the hearth, sharing a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine as you share dreams and wishes on a cold and stormy night.
The fireplaces in the bedroom will generally only be in the primary suite so you won’t need to worry about your kids doing something dastardly in the middle of the night and most, if not all, will be gas ones. Do you really want to put the time and effort in what it takes to build a fire before heading off to dreamland when a flick of a switch could give you the same feelings, just without all the work!
Coffee in Hand
Our gourmet kitchens are fully equipped with luxury appliances, custom cabinets, the occasional wine fridge, and in certain models, a coffee bar that will help warm you from the inside out! And if there is no coffee bar, never fear, there will be a coffee maker or a Keurig to ensure that all your caffeine needs are met. Starting each day with coffee in hand is the only way to wake up, and as usual, we at Grand Adventure Company have taken the process to the next level, making our guests feel welcomed and spoiled.
FYI, the luxury appliances in the kitchen may tempt you to create a meal of your own, chili, stew, or even a quiche for breakfast, but you don’t need to feel obligated to cook. The restaurants of Steamboat Springs are a foodies dream come true, and we sincerely hope you will take some time to explore them! The dining rooms that are located just steps away will offer the perfect spot to sit, sip, and savor the world coming awake around you, as well as providing a great place to eat a meal, play board games, or put together puzzles on a cold and snowy night.
Ski Storage
If you are here for winter, more than likely you will spend at least one day on the slopes and whether you have chosen one of our ski in, ski out rentals that allow you to be on the slopes in a matter of minutes or have picked an escape that is further out, more secluded, there will probably be a ski storage room inside the space. Designed to help keep the muss and fuss out of the living areas, they come furnished with benches for sitting and taking off or putting on your boots, racks for the skis, and hooks to hang your coats.
Game and/or Theater Rooms
The sun sets early in the winter, and although there will be après ski moments and karaoke nights at Schmiggity’s Live Music and Dance Bar (Tuesday nights), you may find yourself having more fun at home in our winter wonderlands. Game rooms may offer a giant pool table dominating the center of the room or may offer a selection of arcade games, game tables, maybe even a video game console that will bring joy to whoever is maneuvering the joystick.
Other luxury properties may feature theater rooms furnished with either a row of leather recliners with cupholders or a comfy sectional sofa that invites you to sink into its depths, snuggle under a blanket, and watch ALL the Christmas movies. Every moment spent in every room is sure to be one you hold close in your memories, pulling out to reexamine when times are tough and you just need a smile in the midst of all the craziness.
Another way to play at home doesn’t require anything more than a board game and the dining room table, and as you live life unplugged for just a while, the beginnings of another snowstorm will add magic to this wonderful night of family fun!
It’s the Contrast
Speaking of magic, there is something wonderful about simmering in a bubbling hot tub on a frigid winter night. Staring up at a sky filled with stars or catching snowflakes on your tongue as the white stuff falls all around you, sipping wine, and letting the serenity of a winter night bring you peace. We can’t say for sure what makes these moments so special, but we can wager a guess that it is the contrast between cold night and hot waters, the way the tip of your nose may be freezing, but the tips of your toes are feeling tickly and warm. It may be a little difficult to hear the sounds of the night above the roar of the jets in the hot tub, but it will still be one of those adventures that you look back on years from now and think, “That was the best night!”
