Spring is the season of promise, and when your journey brings you to Steamboat Springs in that season, it promises to bring another chance to enjoy winter’s swan song. The snow may still be falling, the temperatures will be low, and skiing is still a popular activity, at least through the middle of April, and our Grand Adventure Company seasonal sanctuaries will provide warmth and comfort at the end of every day. This guide to a journey to Steamboat Springs in spring will help you find all the ways to enjoy your Colorado adventures and lead you to the most comfortable escapes in the state at the conclusion of each exciting activity.
Day 1: Last Chance to Ski
After a delicious breakfast at The Range Food & Drink Hall, conveniently located on the mountain, your day of freedom on the slopes may begin with First Tracks, an add-on to your ski pass that allows you to glide down the mountain on fresh powder as the rest of the skiers patiently wait for 8:30 to follow in your tracks. It may be cold, it may be snowy, but this late in the season you may notice the first whispers of warmth as you schuss your way down the mountain, and the ride back up is often slightly warmer than it was just weeks ago. If you finish a little early on this first day in Steamboat Springs, it might be relaxing and beneficial to your aching muscles to spend some time at Strawberry Park Natural Hot Springs, soaking in waters that reach just over 100 degrees.
Day 2: Museum Day
Now, there could be a day during your visit where the rains fall instead of the snow, and you may be seeking adventures that mostly let you stay inside, making a day at the museums of Steamboat Springs a very excellent idea. There are just two museums in town, the Tread of Pion6eers Museum (800 Oak Street), and the Steamboat Art Museum (801 Lincoln Avenue), so you can choose to visit one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and still have time for a delicious Mexican dinner at Salt & Lime (628 Lincoln Avenue). Don’t forget that nothing goes better with a rainy or even snowy day than a frothy margarita!
Day 3: Family Picture Day?
For those arriving a little later in spring, you are about to discover how beautiful the countryside can be as it begins to awaken for the season, and that breathtaking beauty offers an awesome backdrop to family pictures taken here. Some of the best pictures we have ever taken, with family in them or otherwise, are the ones we take of Fish Creek Falls. Located just minutes away from downtown Steamboat Springs, the walk to the falls is a short and easy one, so families with tiny travelers will be able to make the journey as well. The falls are especially “voluptuous” as the snowmelt sends even more white water cascading over stones that have been worn smooth from years of such “shenanigans,” and any family photos with the roaring waters in the background are destined to be ones you will cherish forever.
Day 4: The Most Fun on Two Wheels
Biking is a popular spring (and summer) activity, and even if you rode here last spring, we are constantly opening new trails, ensuring that no two rides ever have to be the same. Wheels Bike Shop, 841 Yampa Street, offers a fantastic selection of bikes for rent, including fat tire ones if the snow is still blanketing the ground during your spring visit. Feeling especially hungry after a day on the trails? Carb out at Truffle Pig, located at 2250 Après Ski Way, offering a menu filled with pasta, steaks, and small plates.
Day 5: For the Foodies
Visitors are often surprised at the variety of restaurants that can be explored in Steamboat Springs, but foodies know and often make their way to our Colorado mountain town for a foodie tour. There are 130 restaurants in Steamboat, and no, there would be no way for you to visit them all, but there’s no points taken off for trying! Breakfasts at the Beard & Braid, lunches at the Drunken Onion, and delicious dinners at Primrose—these are just three fantastic spots we encourage you to visit, leaving 127 others to think about! Bring your leftovers home to your Grand Adventure Company Colorado retreats and discover how much more flavorful a meal can be after a little settling time in the refrigerator of your fully equipped kitchens.
