Family Friendly Journey to Steamboat Springs

The annual family vacation is a time-honored tradition that can be the best adventure of your life or the biggest mistake you have ever made. It can be difficult to find activities, restaurants, or even vacation properties that will be enjoyed by all ages, but when you look in the direction of Steamboat Springs and our Grand Adventure Lodging Company family escapes, we can help you make sure this journey is the best one. Our guide to a five day Colorado adventure will help you fill in all the blank spaces on your vacation itinerary, ensuring fun days, comfortable nights, and an adventure that will never be forgotten. Discover our Steamboat Springs family activities for your next stay below!

Day 1: The Adventures Begin

Your first day in Steamboat Springs deserves a first breakfast that will appeal to even the pickiest eaters, and for that, we are recommending a visit to Johnny B Good’s Diner. Offering a true 50s diner experience, it is just unique enough that your kids will be fascinated, and the food—simple, but delicious—will be devoured. Winter visitors may want to spend the day on the slopes, and if your kids don’t ski as of yet, lessons are available on the mountain. Trust us, kids pick up the sport fast and may be outskiing you by the end of their first day of lessons. Après ski may not be on the agenda as you are vacationing with family, but pizza at Blue Sage is always a good idea!

Day 2: Summer Adventures in Steamboat Springs

Steamboat Springs is an all-season vacation destination and for our summer visitors, the Steamboat Howler Alpine Slide will bring out your inner child while giving your real children an experience they will never forget. A 2400-foot trek down the mountain aboard a sled on wheels offers a roller coaster experience that is safe, exciting, and oh so fast. And even though we mentioned earlier that après ski may not be on the agenda, Apres Burger Bistro could offer a sneaky way to enjoy a taste of après while your kids devour a Bear Cub Burger off their kids’ menu. Do yourself a favor, though, and don’t forget to save room for their peanut butter chocolate cake, something else that the entire family will love!

Day 3: Who Rode the Dogs Out?

dog sled

This next adventure is one we suggest for all vacationers, but we can assure you that your children will be absolutely fascinated and beg to come back again. Dog sledding isn’t just for the Iditarod; it is a popular winter adventure in Steamboat Springs as well, and Grizzle-T Dog & Sled Works is one company we highly recommend. Travelers can learn to mush their own dog team or simply go along for the ride when joining in one of the tours of the back country they offer. The owners have young children of their own, making them especially kid friendly, something not all companies manage to be. If you aren’t tired of Italian, Mambo Italiano’s menu is sophisticated for adults, offering a full bar and some really excellent wine, and their kids’ menu includes a complimentary chipwich, a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich, to entice them to clean their plates.

Day 4: Fun, Fun, Fun

Even we are surprised at just how many kid-friendly activities we offer here in Steamboat Springs, and although we can’t say for sure that this next activity will be your children’s favorite (Those dog sled rides were fantastic!), we can promise that a visit to Amaze’n Steamboat Family Fun Park will certainly rank right up there. They offer mini golf, a human maze, laser tag, squirt gun fun, and so many more exciting activities, including gem panning, one activity that reflects the history of our town but won’t feel educational. Only open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, winter visitors will have to start planning a return trip in the summer if they truly want to play here. Pack a picnic and enjoy it at the park, saving a little money to use in other vacation activities.

Day 5: Wow! That Went by Fast

All too soon your adventures in Steamboat Springs must come to an end, and on this last day of fun and excitement, you may want to stay home and play in your Grand Adventure Company family friendly retreat. Summer visitors might choose a condo with a community pool, tiring out the littles after a long day of fun under the sun, and then, while the kids are sleeping, a soak in the hot tub will help wash away any troubles for the day. For one last dinner out, we might suggest heading back to Johnny B Good’s, where a milkshake with your name on will be waiting, and we can’t imagine a better way to bid Steamboat Springs adieu.
