Steamboat Springs is more known for its winter wonders, but you can’t ignore the charm and beauty of a fall day in the mountains when cool days and colder nights make you yearn for flannel shirts, pumpkin spice lattes, and a fire crackling merrily in the fireplace. Not as cold as winter, but still cold enough that the warmth of your Grand Adventure Company seasonal sanctuary will be most welcomed, the Steamboat Springs fall season in the mountains really is the stuff that dreams are made of. Warm and cozy are the words of the season and our guide to the cozy amenities offered in our mountain condos may soon have you daydreaming about a life where it feels like fall every day!
Warm and Welcoming
Could warmth be considered a cozy amenity? We think it could if the warmth is emitting from the flames of a fireplace in the living room, adding a cozy vibe to the space as it also serves as a second level of heat. Don’t worry, our heaters work fine, but the charm of a crackling fire will add to the cozy appeal of your stay. Nights can still get cold in Steamboat Springs during this vibrant season, and often times you will find colorful throws tossed across the back of leather sectionals, inviting guests to snuggle under their soft fabric. Add a cup of hot tea, a good book, and that fire burning merrily, and you will create a tableau of cozy not soon forgotten.

Cozy Nights Around the Dining Table
Cozy can also be the experiences you enjoy during your fall journey in Steamboat, and because we provide all the extras, you may find that after your daytime adventures on the mountain, your family can come together around the dining tables, playing board games you found in cabinets or on shelves, laughing, chatting, and exploring your competitive side as the moon rises higher. Comfy chairs, large tables, and high speed internet allowing you to stream your favorite music while you stay unplugged in all other ways. Cozy, comfortable, and filled with laughter, your nights at home with Grand Adventure Company will be the memories you mull over for years to come!
Kitchens Can Be Cozy, Too
We can see you looking at us ever so skeptically as you try to wonder on what planet ever that the harsh angles, cold surfaces, and constant source of chores could be considered cozy. And in answer, we want you to think back to your childhood, to the days when you stood on a stool, learning the secrets of baking from your grandmother. Rolling out leftover dough from her pie crusts, slathering its topside in butter, cinnamon, and sugar, then rolling up each strip into a circle, creating your first home baked cinnamon rolls. Yes, there were chores, and no you weren’t able to use sharp tools, but the moments spent in her warm kitchen were ones you remember fondly to this day, and when traveling with kids, you can relive them. Share the secret ingredients to your favorite family recipes, sip fresh brewed coffee as your teen takes charge, and cherish the cozy quiet, knowing these moments are fleeting; vacations spent in our seasonal sanctuaries are more satisfying than you ever knew they could be!
Sleep Well, Dream Happy
Not every vacation rental company understands the importance of comfort, but we do, and when you step into the cozy bedrooms of our spaces, you may discover that your eyelids are already trying to close, so restful are the rooms. Dominated by premium beds topped with silky soft linens that are warm and wonderful, if you fall into them and fall instantly asleep, you will not be judged. You do have options, though, such as watching a little television as you prop yourself up against padded headboards, or maybe you will bring a book into bed with you, reading a few chapters, knowing you won’t be awakened by the loud jangle of an alarm clock insisting that you must leave the cozy warmth of the bed. Some of our primary suites may offer fireplaces in the bedroom, adding another element of cozy and ensuite baths may feature deep tubs that are perfect for getting you ready for sleep; soak, sip, and savor the quiet moments that are the perfect complement to the fun ones you have outside our vacation retreats.

Cozy Is a State of Mind
Cozy can be found in the way you think, the way you feel, and although the real world is more often harsh and cold, the vibe in our Grand Adventure Company fall sanctuaries will always be a cozy one. Reserve your favorite escape today and fall in love with the beauty and soul of our Colorado retreats.

Tips for Traveling to Steamboat Springs with Pets
Traveling to Steamboat Springs with your pet is easier with a little planning. The nearest airport is Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN), just about 25 minutes from downtown, offering convenient regional flights. For those driving, Steamboat is roughly three hours from Denver, making it accessible for a road trip with your furry friend.
When planning your visit, consider packing essentials like your pet’s food, leash, water, and any medications, as well as bedding or blankets to keep them comfortable during travel. Make sure your accommodations are pet-friendly and check local regulations, such as leash requirements and park rules. Scheduling breaks during drives allows your dog to stretch and relieve themselves.
Finally, be mindful of Steamboat’s altitude; give your pet time to acclimate and watch for signs of fatigue or discomfort. Proper preparation ensures a safe, fun vacation for both you and your four-legged companion.

Etiquette and Local Rules for Pet Owners
When vacationing in Steamboat Springs with your pet, following a few simple rules will ensure that everyone has a great time. Many trails, parks, and public areas require dogs to be on a leash, so keep your furry friend close and under control. Always pick up after your pet in order to keep trails and parks clean and show respect for other visitors.
Many local restaurants and cafes welcome dogs on their patios, but it’s polite to keep your pup calm and seated while you dine. If your dog tends to be social, remember that not all dogs enjoy meeting new friends, so ask before allowing introductions. Avoid leaving pets unattended in vehicles, especially during warmer months.
By following these easy guidelines, you will help maintain Steamboat Springs’ pet-friendly reputation while ensuring a fun, safe, and stress-free adventure for both you and your four-legged companion.

Visiting Steamboat Springs at any time of the year is a great idea, but there is a special kind of wonderful that takes place during the fall. Early in the season it is quiet, the air is crisp and cool, but there is an underlying hum of excitement as ski season inches ever nearer, and in late fall, the hum reaches a crescendo when the slopes are open again. No matter when you visit, the good times will be better than you dreamed, especially when you engage in these top outdoor activities in Steamboat Springs, and the comfortable times in our Grand Adventure Company seasonal sanctuaries will be cozy and warm!
Before the Snow
Steamboat Springs is one of a handful of places in which fall is divided into two seasons, and so we will divide the story we tell into two topics: before the snow, and after the snow falls. When you arrive early in the season, you will notice that nights are already quite chilly and the daylight hours are brisk and cool, but the sun will be shining, the trees will be a mix of vibrant fall colors, and life will move at a little slower pace. Early fall—September and October—is considered the shoulder season, and wait times at restaurants will be shorter, the trails will be less crowded, and smiles will come much easier.

Take a Hike
In just a few short weeks, many of the trails you see today will be blanketed with snow and hordes of colorfully dressed skiers will be schussing their way down, but before the snow, hiking is one of our favorite outdoor activities in Steamboat Springs. There are a lot of amazing trails in the area, including the easy hike that will lead you to Fish Creek Falls. If you want a little more exertion, the Mad Creek Trail stretches out over 8 miles and takes hikers past a really cool historic barn.
Attend a Fall Festival
OktoberWest is our signature beer festival that is actually held in September when the weather is warmer, bringing joy and hops to everyone who attends. This is a two-day festival, and this year it occurs on September 5 and 6. You’ll find a vendor market, a beef cook-off, kids’ games, and a beer stroll. This is our favorite fall event, and we can assure you that it will be yours too. Downtown Steamboat is the site of this fantastic event, and General Admission tickets will give guests entry to the festival, the beer garden, complimentary 4 oz samples, and a branded 16-ounce beer glass. The Beer Stroll has its own tickets, and VIP Tickets include early access to the festival, a judge/taster role, and a branded 19.5-ounce beer stein. Finally, the games package can be added to the VIP Tickets, giving guests the chance to compete in the four different OktoberWest challenges.
Fly Fishing on the Yampa River
The brown trout are really biting in the fall! It seems we aren’t the only species that enjoys our mountain weather this time of year, and Yampa Valley Anglers offer a large number of guided fly fishing trips through October.
After the Snow Falls
Winter comes early in the mountains, and the snow begins to fall in October, changing the vibe of your fall vacation. November is when the heavy snowfalls begin, with Thanksgiving generally being the kick-off to ski season, and the quiet of early fall becomes an electric buzz of activity. Once ski season begins, your days in Steamboat will be filled with time on the mountain and après ski evenings, snowshoe trips and Nordic ski adventures. The temperatures may drop, the snow may fall hard, and spending as much time outside as possible will make this trip one you will never forget.

Come Home to Grand Adventure Company and Get Cozy
Spending cozy nights at home in your Grand Adventure Company seasonal sanctuaries will, of course, be something you look forward to at the end of every day. You can still spend some time outside, soaking in hot tubs, sitting on balconies watching the sun fall behind the mountains, maybe even taking an evening walk on paths that lead throughout the community. But it is the moments you spend inside our spacious and serene retreats that will bring a quiet joy to your heart. And as you cuddle with your favorite person in front of a roaring fire, rewatch Friends on Smart TVs before you fall asleep, or simply sit at the dining table sipping coffee and staring out at the snow falling gently (or not so gently) to the ground during your late fall visit, you may just decide that the mountain life is the only life you want to lead. Reserve your favorite retreat today!
Known throughout the world for our mountain views and first class ski resort, it is only natural that you prefer to live on the mountain during your Colorado vacation, and Grand Adventure Company has you covered. Offering luxury, style, comfort, and the mountain retreat you’ve always dreamed about the worst part of your vacation experience spent with us will be having to say goodbye to it all at the end of your stay. This guide to the Homes on the Mountain community that we offer will help you cross the first item off your vacation planning to do list, that of choosing your mountain Steamboat Springs accommodations!
Comfort First
We travel quite a bit ourselves, and when we are traveling, we take a closer look at our accommodations, making note of all that is good and bad about each space. We’ve learned that there are far too many vacation rentals out there that just don’t understand the importance of comfort, so of course, we have moved comfort to the top of our list. Our sofas will make you want to sink right into their plush depths, reveling in the soft materials in which they are covered, and maybe even take a nap on a lazy day. The chairs that surround the dining room tables will encourage lingering over a second cup of coffee in the morning or another game of cards at night, and even the barstools that belly up to kitchen islands or breakfast bars will be padded for your seat’s comfort. When the sun sinks behind the mountains and your eyelids seem to be falling as quickly as the sun did, our beds will provide havens of peace and serenity, leading occupants to a night filled with deep sleep and happy dreams.

Ambience Matters
The vibe or personality of our mountain retreats are as important to the success of your vacation experience, and when you step inside for the first time, we want you to feel welcomed and at home. The décor will be charming, the colors will not clash, and the views visible through windows that stretch from floor to ceiling will take your breath away, but if you don’t feel welcomed, none of that will matter. Fireplaces add a soft vibe to the living rooms and the occasional primary suite bedrooms, colorful throws tossed across the back of the comfortable couches will offer cheer as they provide an added source of warmth, as you peek into our chef quality kitchens, you will immediately recognize that the heart of the home beats here.
Modern Amenities
The décor may appear rustic ski cabin in style, but we can assure you that the modern reigns supreme in these spaces on the mountain. State of the art televisions will probably be smart ones, appliances will be name brands, and high-speed internet will ensure you can appear at virtual meetings as easily as you scroll through your favorite social media websites. Streaming music for your family barbecue or to enjoy as you soak in community or private hot tubs, checking emails, and attending classes now that summer has ended and the school year has started up again are all activities that are as important to the success of your vacation experience as the fun and good times.
Community Amenities
Our Grand Adventure Company homes are located in the best mountain communities, and whether you are staying in a private home, a townhome, or even a condo, access to community amenities will be included. This may include the occasional community pool and may include hot tub access, either community or private. Covered parking or private garages are more amenities that will enhance your vacation experience and private or community grills finish up the list. Of course, we are continually adding to our inventory of mountain homes, so who knows what next week will bring?

Comfortable Adventures on the Mountain with Grand Adventure Company
Our Grand Adventure Company mountain escapes are where your most comfortable and relaxing adventures will take place during your Steamboat Springs getaway. The best vacations begin and end with us, and as you hike along mountain trails, try your hand at fly fishing in the rivers that flow through the most gorgeous landscape you have ever seen, and devour hearty meals that help keep you fueled up for your daytime adventures, in the back of your mind you will be thinking of the quiet moments you will be enjoying in our mountain homes. Reserve your favorite retreat today!
Every season is the best season to visit Steamboat Springs, offering excitement, beauty, and when you choose our Grand Adventure Company sanctuaries, comfort and luxury. But there is one season that seems to be the most popular. That season is, of course, winter, and when snow is blanketing the landscape, and Steamboat Ski Resort opens its slopes, you too might be planning your vacation for this most wonderful time of year. With all the travelers making their way to our mountain town, however, your best bet at getting the winter Steamboat cabin rentals that will make your dreams come true is by starting your planning early, and this guide will show you the all the reasons why this is a good idea and why Grand Adventure Company is the only company you want to rent from!
Lift Tickets Can Cost Less
In a world of procrastination, the only thing that can make procrastinators stop putting things off until the last minute could be the idea of saving money, and when ski season lift tickets first become available, we can promise they cost far less than they do the closer it gets to your trip time. Ski tickets aren’t cheap in any case, and if you are a family of skiers, the amount of money you can save will grow larger, leaving you with more money to stay in Steamboat Springs longer, to spend more money shopping, or to dine out more and eat at home less. By not spending as much on the ski tickets you’ve been dreaming about since your last ski vacation ended, you can have even more fun during your Colorado adventures in our mountain town!
Rentals Cost Less as Well
If you already have everything you need for a day on the slopes, you can skip right past this section and go on to the next one. But if you are planning on renting your gear (and everything from goggles to skis can be rented), keep reading. In the grand scheme of things, ski rentals aren’t all that expensive, but you are already spending so much on flights, lift tickets, lodging, and more, every bit of money that you can save is sure to be helpful. Most of us aren’t made of money, and even though it means you need to figure out your plans a little earlier than you normally would, the end result will be beneficial to your finances and prove to the world that you are a savvy traveler.
Better Products Available for Rent
Once the ski slopes open, the world flocks to our doorstep, and because carrying skis, boots, and other gear across the country is a hectic and labor-intensive move, most people will be renting their equipment either on the mountain or from the many sporting good stores in town. The early birds, however, will get first dibs on the best equipment, and as we mentioned in the above paragraph, will get the best deals. When you want to hobnob with the big names in the business (Rossignol, Nordica, Blizzard), rent early and rent wisely, understanding that in just a few months you will be schussing down the slopes with the best of them, wearing the best equipment!

Better Chance of Being Able to Participate in Activities Other Than Skiing
Believe it or not, just because it is winter, it doesn’t mean that skiing is the only game in town. There are many other activities you may want to try, activities that may be unavailable during the time you have available, forcing you to find other things to do during your Steamboat Springs trip of a lifetime. We’ve listed a few of our favorites below.
Strawberry Park and Old Town Hot Springs
If you have never experienced hot springs before, with the proper planning you can remedy that situation this year at one of the two hot springs in the area, or both if you want an authentic Steamboat experience. Strawberry Park Hot Springs, offering a rustic and more natural experience, fills up fast and requires 4WD with snow tires/chains if you are driving there (something else that should be rented early), unless you want to take their shuttle. Old Town Hot Springs is known for offering a family-friendly adventure in downtown Steamboat, including water slides, a climbing wall, and a fitness center. And because all the available slots can be taken early, if you don’t book your two-hour time slot at Strawberry Park, it may be an adventure you will have to forego.
Ski or Snowboard Lessons
Ok, we know we said OTHER than skiing, but if this is your first time on skis, the lessons offered can be extremely helpful. But just as in everything else, if you wait too long, there are a limited number of hours in the days of ski season, which also limits the lessons available. Book early if you want to ensure your place in the class and don’t want to spend your day at a lodge, drinking spiked hot chocolate while your family is on the slopes. Of course, if you like that idea, then you can skip this paragraph too, and just remember to bring a book with you so you aren’t bored between the hours of 9AM and 4PM!
Better Choices in Lodging
Grand Adventure Company is always going to have some sort of lodging choices available, but they may not be the ones you dreamed about. Maybe you will have to rent a smaller space and have the kids double up (We can already hear the squabbles that will ensue!) or maybe you will find a rental that is large enough for your entire traveling party but with a woodburning fireplace instead of a gas one, and you have never managed the art of fire building.

Our homes are luxurious and comfortable, so there won’t be a need to sacrifice either of those qualities simply because you waited too long, but we do only have a limited number of pet friendly properties, and wouldn’t it be sad to have to leave poor Lulu at home, spending more of your vacation money simply to get someone to watch her? And if you are wondering how early is early, we can tell you that by the beginning of October, many of our more popular retreats are nearly booked out for the season, only offering a few open days here and there, so now is the time to book!
Eating at the Right Hours
Nothing is more discouraging than getting to the restaurant you’ve been dreaming about and finding that there is an hour-long wait, or even worse, no openings to be had for a few days. Winter is the peak season for Steamboat Springs, with more than half a million tourists landing on our doorstep, and every one of those tourists will want to eat at the same restaurants as you; they are popular for a reason, and that reason is the food is simply scrumptious! Planning ahead and making reservations may be the best choice you can make, offering the opportunity to eat the meals you want at the hours you want and possibly eliminating the need for salty and fatty fast food alternatives. Now, let’s make one thing clear: We are not saying that you need to make the reservation months in advance, this isn’t New York City, but you might want to check out what’s available a few weeks ahead of your arrival, simply to avoid disappointment.
More Opportunities for Comfort and Fun, Less Stress and Disappointment
This next reason may not be as tangible as the others, but it also may be the best reason as to why you should book early. Real life can be a hot mess of stress, mixed in with a smattering of disappointment, combined with a healthy dose of exhaustion, and if you can limit at least two of those things, you will enjoy your trip that much more, especially as you fill in all the blank pages of your itinerary with fun activities, comfortable adventures, and delicious meals. We will do our part, ensuring that our cozy and comfortable Steamboat Springs sanctuaries are warm and welcoming and stocked with the luxury amenities you need to relax and deserve so very much, and if you take our advice and book your activities early, make your reservations early, and who knows, maybe even pack your bags in advance, this will be the vacation of your dreams. And yes, it will still be the vacation of your dreams if you don’t take our advice, but there may be stress and disappointment included!
Choosing Grand Adventure Company for Your Winter Lodging
We realize that we haven’t spent a lot of time talking about why you should choose Grand Adventure Company; we’re assuming you already know all the reasons, but just in case, we’d like to take a few more minutes of your precious time to explain. We provide a choice in lodging, offering both condos and private vacation homes, ensuring that you will find exactly the property you need to complete the perfect vacation experience. Warm, welcoming, and loaded with luxury amenities, our spaces will become an integral part of your ski vacation experience, even if you spend a majority of your time out and about exploring all that Steamboat has to offer.
Our rentals will be your soft place to land, offering a warm embrace that will be much appreciated after a day spent frolicking in snow and cold and as you soak in the hot tubs on decks that overlook the town, watch Christmas movies on state of the art televisions with a fire crackling merrily in the fireplace, and sleep deep while dreaming happily every night of your stay, your vacation dreams will all come true.

Modern Conveniences
Cozy nights spent sipping hot chocolate as the snow falls on the mountains just outside your window will be wonderful, and snuggling deeper into the warmth of the blankets covering our beds when you decide to sleep in a little later will be fantastic, but you need more than just cozy comforts to experience an unforgettable vacation. Coffee makers or Keurigs (and sometimes both) will ensure that you stay well-caffeinated during your Colorado adventures, and wine cabinets will hold the bottles of red that you love so much.
Rubbing shoulders with the big names in the appliance world will allow you to stay home some evenings, enjoying a quiet night in, maybe watching those high-tech televisions, maybe playing in game rooms equipped with a blend of vintage (pool tables), retro (arcade games), and thoroughly modern (video game consoles). Fireplaces in primary suites will add romance and warmth to your nights. Our townhome communities may offer private hot tubs, community hot tubs, or both. Our private homes will offer hot tubs on the decks, some may have jetted tubs in the bathrooms, and some may have both!

The experiences you enjoy during your Steamboat Springs vacation will be ones that you will never forget, offering fun, excitement, and the opportunity to relax at home in our Colorado sanctuaries, including the condos we offer in the La Casa Condominiums Steamboat Springs community. Spacious, luxurious, and offering a welcoming vibe, your family will soon find that every adventure at home is a comfortable one and that there are no sacrifices needed to be made when choosing a condo community over a private home. Today, we are going to shine the spotlight on this wonderful community, located just off the slopes, exploring the amenities of the community and the comforts of each condo we offer therein.
Community Amenities
Sometimes travelers worry that they just won’t receive a well-rounded vacation experience when they choose to stay in a condo as opposed to a standalone home, but the amenities offered in the La Casa condo community ensure that will never be an issue. Sidewalks wind along curvy roads, offering an idyllic way to walk off the extra calories after a heavy meal, and a barbecue area allows families to participate in that all-American tradition of a Sunday barbecue—but because you are on vacation, it can take place any day of the week. Two large hot tubs will enable guests to soak away the aches and pains earned from a strenuous hike or a day spent skiing on the mountain, and a location near both the slopes and the hiking trails will ensure that you never have to be far from all the fun activities Steamboat Springs has to offer.
Welcome Home
Now that you have explored a little bit of the community in which your Steamboat sanctuary is located, it is time to turn that spotlight we mentioned earlier to the rentals we at Grand Adventure Co offer therein. The community, known for its 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom units, provides spacious rooms, and at the time of this writing, our units are the largest of them all. Offering 4 bedrooms, 5 baths, and the space for up to 12 guests to live together in peace and harmony, your stay with us will truly give you the perfect example of the meaning behind the phrase, “The more, the merrier!” Offering a ski cabin theme without appearing dark and cramped, high ceilings and large windows keep the rooms feeling sunny and bright, even on the darkest days of winter.
Unique Private Amenities
You may already know to expect more from Grand Adventure Co, but when it comes to condos, you may expect certain limitations, limitations we are happy to say don’t exist here. Because in addition to the standard amenities, fully equipped kitchens, fireplaces in the living rooms, and laundry rooms in the unit, there are others that most condos won’t offer. Starting small, we know that our guests appreciate the covered parking spaces, ensuring that your rental car stays dry and out of the elements, always ready to take you on adventures. And the primary suite of many of our units may offer a little something extra in the form of its own fireplace! There is nothing more romantic than falling asleep to the flickering warmth of the flames, and because these fireplaces are gas, you won’t have to struggle to light them. The tubs in these spaces are deep, inviting occupants to soak, sip, and savor quiet moments after a long day spent living out loud, and towels will be fluffy, large, and soft, ideal for wrapping around your body as you step from the bath.
Perhaps the most unique amenity, however, is the presence of arcade games and game tables inside the unit. Usually condo communities provide a game room, but we very rarely see them inside the unit, and as you relax at home on a rainy night, rediscovering the power Ms. Pacman holds over you, you will know that you truly have found paradise on earth; it is located right here, inside the La Casa condominium you’ve rented for your Colorado journey!

Comfortable, Inviting, and Luxurious
Every moment inside our La Casa retreats will be ones that you cherish. High-speed internet will enable you to participate in virtual meetings, updated televisions will often be smart ones that permit you to stream your favorite shows. Large balconies that run along the back of the condo are where you can sit and contemplate the beauty of the landscape and the awe inspiring colors that set the sky on fire at sunset. In-unit laundry rooms will also provide a place to store your skis and boots for our winter visitors or can be where you set your fishing gear if you are visiting in the summer. Every attention is paid to every detail in our La Casa condos—reserve your favorite property today!
While much of the world is wondering if summer is ever going to end come August, in Steamboat Springs we are celebrating the beginning of autumn as the temperatures start to fall. The leaves aren’t changing color yet, but we’re pretty sure that pumpkin spice coffee is already being sold, and if you are visiting and don’t pack a jacket, you will regret it! Fortunately, if you do forget, the fireplaces in our Grand Adventure Company seasonal sanctuaries will warm you quickly, and this guide to experiencing Steamboat Springs in August will help you enjoy everything our town has to offer.
We Pull Out Our Cowboy Hats and Boots
If it is summer the Steamboat Pro Rodeo, 401 Howelsen Parkway, is the main event, but it ends August 23rd, so be sure to plan your visit before then if you want to experience an authentic Western Rodeo. Offering cowboys and cowgirls participating in all your favorite rodeo events, a barbecue before the night’s show begins, and one of our favorite parts of the rodeo, two fun children’s events, the Ram Scramble (ages 5 and under) and the Calf Scramble (ages 6-12). The kids are so cute and so determined to win that we wish EVERYONE could be declared winners!

We Eat All Our Veggies
The Steamboat Springs Farmers Market is our favorite way of buying the vegetables we eat, offering locally sourced produce that just tastes better than the stuff in the grocery stores. Located on Yampa Street between 5th and 8th, and open every Saturday through mid-September, the Farmers Market also offers locally raised buffalo, chicken, beef, seafood, and trout, as well as baked goods, specialty sauces, and a large number of arts and crafts vendors selling merch that will make great souvenirs and even greater Christmas gifts, if you are organized enough to think about starting your holiday shopping that early!
Wetting Our Lines
The cool mornings are the perfect times to climb into a pair of waders, head to the Yampa River, and cast our lines out into the water. Fly fishing is a big time summer activity in Steamboat, and it may be the only reason you skip the trout purchase at the Farmer’s Market. If you haven’t tried to fly fish before your Steamboat August getaway, Steamboat Flyfisher, 655 Yampa Street Unit C-2, offers guided fishing trips and instruction on how to best cast your line.
We Like to Eat (A LOT)
In our humble opinion, the restaurants of Steamboat Springs are some of the finest in the world and we spend a lot of our time off the clock exploring meal options at some of the best. You may worry about being at a disadvantage, not knowing enough about the restaurants in town, but a food tour can help relieve your mind. Steamboat Springs Food Tours, 635 Lincoln Avenue, offers custom tours that are a bit pricier, but their standard Bite of the Boat Tour is reasonably priced and visits 4-5 restaurants to give you a taste of what you can expect from your vacation. Go back at a later time and revisit your favorites or consider it good and decide to conduct your own food tour at restaurants that didn’t make the tour, leaving town with an authentic taste of Steamboat deliciousness.

Exploring Art
Although summer temps rarely rise above 80 degrees, there can be some days that get a little toasty and on those days, we gravitate to indoor activities, such as visiting the Steamboat Art Museum, located at 801 Lincoln Avenue inside a former bank building. Its most current exhibit, “The Art of Printmaking: Process and Passion, comes to a close on August 31, and offers the works of nearly 45 artists from all over the country. Writers are encouraged to enter The Painted Words, the museum’s 8th annual literary competition & writer’s celebration, an event that takes place on August 5th. Also offering a cute little gift shop selling reproductions of the art that has been exhibited there, it’s another great way to pick up souvenirs to bring back home with you.
And We Relax
Fall and all the craziness that accompanies the season is right around the corner, and if we take a few days in August to sit around the house and do nothing, is anyone really going to judge us? Of course not, no more than we would judge you for daring to do the same thing during your stay, and our seasonal sanctuaries offer many enticements to be lazy. Soaking in a hot tub on the back deck, binge watching movies on supersized state of the art televisions or sleeping in late every day of your stay. Our August accommodations are designed to be the best part of your vacation experience, and we encourage you to spend some time exploring all their wonderful amenities!
Remember the crepe you ate on that street corner in Paris, that street taco you devoured during your adventures in Rocky Point, or that slice of pizza you still swear is the best slice you have ever tasted, eaten during your stay in New York City? The food we eat while on vacation is almost as important as the adventures you experience, and during your visit to Steamboat Springs, we at Grand Adventure Company want to share some of our favorite local bites with you, ensuring that this vacation will be one you long remember. This guide to our favorite must-try summer Steamboat eats will have your taste buds cheering as you begin to salivate and your stomach begins to rumble.
A Cup of Joe from Off the Beaten Path Bookstore & Café, 68 9th St
Although coffee technically isn’t considered a meal, so many travelers skip breakfast but never skip coffee that we feel it should be grandfathered in, and a cup of joe at Off the Beaten Path Bookstore & Café is where we are starting our epicurean explorations. The coffee might not be the star of the show in this eclectic bookstore, but just like those earrings you purchased added the right amount of bling to your “OOTD” (outfit of the day to those without TikTok) the coffee served here is the perfect accessory to the books you will not be able to resist buying. Also offering a yummy selection of pastries, spending a couple of hours sipping iced coffee, devouring every crumb of your cream cheese brownie, and browsing the aisles of the bookshop that reminds us why we still need books when eReaders are in existence, might be the adventure you remember most.
Plate-Sized Pancakes from the Shack Café, 740 Lincoln Avenue
The plate-sized pancakes of the Shack Café will certainly push all thoughts of Paris crepes from your brain, offering a fluffy treat to help get your brain functioning in the morning. (Although the Shack Café does serve breakfast all day.) The pancakes are literally the size of dinner plates and can be stuffed with your favorite fruit or chocolate chips, or can be enjoyed the way nature intended, plain and drowned in maple syrup! Kids will be delighted by their “Mouse” pancakes, the ears made with dollar-sized pancakes, banana slices and blueberries as eyes, a chunk of strawberry for the nose, and more blueberries lined up in a smile.
Happy Hour at Café Diva, 1855 Ski Time Square Drive
Happy hour is summer’s version of après ski, and Café Diva is where you will find us from 5-6 PM in both seasons. Serving smooth wines and delectable bites that include a charcuterie plate, which we feel is the best light meal for summer, your happy hour at Café Diva may roll over into dinnertime, and a menu that is destined for greatness. Seared scallops are one of our favorite summer treats, and we always are sure to save room for the Diva’s key lime pie ice cream sandwich!
Rocky Mountain Chili at Stonewall, 685 Marketplace Plaza # C-1
Ok, you got us. Chili is usually considered more of a fall or winter dish, but in Steamboat Springs, the temperatures can drop into the 60s in the evenings, so chili is a year-round dish to us, and the version served at Stonewall may be our favorite. Made with Colorado bison & elk and served with cheddar cheese, cornbread, and house-pickled jalapeños, when you want to spice up your day a bit, nothing does it better than Rocky Mountain Chili from this wonderful eatery. Their summer salad is a good choice for those seeking something lighter, made with arugula, charred broccoli, grilled corn, almonds, bacon, and served with a lemon parmesan vinaigrette.
Step into the Past with a Shake From Lyon’s Corner Drug & Soda Fountain, 685 Marketplace Plaza # C-1
Back in the day, first dates were usually enjoyed at a soda fountain counter, sharing a milkshake with two straws, and today, your Steamboat Springs adventures will let you continue that tradition with a stop at Lyon’s Corner Drug & Soda Fountain. Lyon’s opened its doors for business in the 40s, but there has always been a pharmacy on this spot since the 1920s, and the history of Steamboat is steeped in every inch of floor space in the business. Also offering a savory menu of sandwiches and soups, guests can enjoy an authentic flavored soda, banana splits, sundaes, or, of course, a milkshake or malt, a tasty summer treat.
Your Secret Family Potato Salad, at Home with Grand Adventure Company
Your secret family recipe for potato salad will stay a secret as you putter around our fully equipped kitchens, gathering the ingredients to prepare the dish that makes your family think of home. Reserve your favorite summer sanctuary today!
We don’t always have a lot of time to play, but that’s ok, sometimes all you need is a day (and a night) to play hard and regain your inner peace, especially when that day trip takes you to Steamboat Springs and ends (or begins) with a stay in our Colorado sanctuaries. Offering a joyful and exciting retreat from real life, your 24 hours in our favorite place may even convince you to come back for a longer stay later, something we don’t mind at all. This guide to planning a day trip Steamboat Springs CO rentals will help you fill in every one of the 1440 minutes, giving you a 24-hour adventure that you will remember forever!
Sunrise Over the Mountains
This first adventure can happen at the end of your stay or at the very beginning, so we will start with the beginning, inviting our guests to check in the night before, rise early, and experience the natural phenomenon that most people won’t experience all that often in their lifetimes. For some people, rising before the sun is the only way to live, but for most of our travelers, sleep is more important. On this morning, however, we urge you to discover the peace and serenity that accompanies a sunrise over the mountains, rolling out of bed and out to the deck of your country retreat—after remembering to bundle up first! Mornings, even in the summer, can be frosty, but in spite of the cold, this is the moment that will become one of your most treasured memories. The dark sky, so inky black you can barely even make out the shadow of the mountains, morphing into dusky gray and then a kaleidoscope of fiery colors that will take your breath away before settling on azure blue and gold—this sunrise sets the stage for a day filled with adventure and wonder.

Breakfast of Champions
After that incredible sunrise, you have two options on what you can do next, but they both end up taking you to the same place. You can climb back in bed for another hour or two, ensuring that you get enough sleep, before officially starting your day of fun in Steamboat with a big breakfast at Creekside Café, 131 11th Street, for option number 1. Or since you are already awake, you can get dressed and head over to Creekside Café for a big breakfast for option number 2. See? Two options, same eventual outcome, including the part where you walk out of Creekside after the meal feeling full and ready to explore more of what Steamboat Springs has to offer! And if you are planning an extra strenuous activity, carb loading with their Wafflelaughagus breakfast (malted waffle topped with sausage gravy and cheddar jack, served with two eggs, breakfast potatoes, and your choice of meat) will make you smile as it gives you the strength you need to complete whatever adventures that are in store for you!
A Fork in the Road
For most adventures in most towns, your adventures will be the same no matter what season you are visiting, but Steamboat Springs is a mountain town, and the difference between cold-weather activities and warm-weather activities is extreme. And so, we have reached a fork in the road on your journey to Steamboat, one road taking you to long days filled with sunshine, warmth and adventures without coats, and the other taking you to short days filled with sunshine but cold temperatures that necessitate bundling up.
The Road Much Warmer
Summer in Steamboat Springs is a joyous time, offering all the sunshine and warmth you may not have expected from a summer in the mountains while still offering that touch of chill that will make you appreciate fireplaces and hot cocoa, even in July. This is when we can really enjoy playing outside, savoring the carefree days and the exciting adventures listed below.

Yampa River Festival, End of May, 1st of June
The Yampa River is the star of the summer show, offering a two-day festival that includes exciting events such as the State of the Yampa address, the Adam Mayo Memorial Fish Creek Kayak Race, and the Main Event, which includes river races, raft rodeos, a Family Fun Zone, and our favorite activity, the Crazy River Dog, in which our fur babies leap into the water and swim to their humans waiting at the D-hole! The fastest pup wins the prize, but all the pooches win the best dog award, at least in our hearts!
Steamboat Pro Rodeo, Friday and Saturday Nights, July and August
The west will be wild again when you attend the Steamboat Pro Rodeo, starting at 7:30 most nights (6:30 on the 4th of July) and offering all you would expect including bronco busting, bull riding, barrel racing, and fun kids’ events that will amaze you if your family hasn’t spent much time on horses in its lifetime. Every evening begins with a delicious barbecue, and if you are visiting on the 4th, will end with a really cool drone show! (Fireworks are forbidden in the summer months.)
Horseback Riding, Fishing, or Hiking
We started with the festivals for your summer day trip in Steamboat Springs, but what if you are visiting when there is no special event? Does that mean you won’t have anything to do? Of course, it doesn’t, and as you choose between horseback riding with Saddleback Ranch (37350 Co Rd 179), with most rides lasting between 1-3 hours, guided fishing trips with Steamboat Fly Fisher (655 Yampa Street Unit C-2), offering trips that are either half- or full-day excursions, or just decide to take an easy hike to Fish Creek Falls, maybe enjoying a picnic as you do, your summer day trip to Steamboat Springs will be one that dreams are made from!

Let’s Take the Cold Road
A day trip to Steamboat Springs in the winter is probably going to involve one very exciting activity. Of course, you are going to ski, and Steamboat Ski Resort is one of the most popular ski destinations in the country, famous for its champagne powder. Offering 23 lifts, 182 trails, and over 3700 acres of skiable terrain, the mountain is where you will spend much of your day, either skiing or snowboarding, as both are allowed here. Its longest run is called Why Not, stretching out over 3 miles, and because your time here is limited (and we hope you come back later for a much longer visit), you will probably not want to leave the mountain, but will want to enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants that sit slopeside. Hazie’s, located at the top of the gondola, is one of our favorite restaurants, and we invite you to check it out for yourself.
When Your Day Goes to the Dogs
Not everyone is into skiing, but pretty much everyone loves dogs, and the thrill seekers in our group can combine a love for adventure and adoration of fur babies with the opportunity to take a dog sled ride at Grizzle-T Dog & Sled Works, located at 1115 Co Rd 205. Offering the chance to “mush” your own dog team, which includes cuddle time and hot cocoa after the tour, the memories you make during this adventure will be soft, furry, and filled with love.
Steamboat Winter Carnival in February
Of course, we celebrate the season with a five-day winter carnival, offering everything from kids on skis to adults on snow shovels being pulled down Main Street! Also offering parent/child relays, snow sculptures, a Friday night soiree, and so many other activities and events, if you didn’t like winter before attending the festival, you’re sure to come out on the other end falling madly in love with the season. Ski Ballet, Nordic Jumping, pancake parties, and the Diamond Hitch Parade are more examples of the fun you will have during your winter day trip to Steamboat Springs during Winter Carnival.
Strawberry Park Hot Springs, 44200 Co Rd 36
Although snow, ice, and below freezing temperatures are the norm during a Steamboat winter, there are a few ways to stay warm, including one very natural one, a visit to Strawberry Park Hot Springs. 4-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive with chains or snow tires are required for this visit, (they do offer a shuttle if your rental car doesn’t come with either) but once you arrive and see the steam rising off the 101- to 106-degree mineral waters, you will forget all about the drive. Strawberry Park has built a little paradise here, utilizing stone and other natural materials that blend into the beautiful backdrop that is a Colorado landscape, and although children are allowed in the daylight hours, after dark it is adults only, offering a more romantic experience that you so richly deserve.
Ice Fishing, Snowmobile Rides, and Snowshoeing with the Family
There really is a lot to do in Steamboat Springs once the mercury drops, and whether you are sitting in a hut on the ice with the business end of your fishing line floating in the water of the hole carved out of the ice (Steamboat Ice Fishing Charters is a good place to start), touring the countryside on a snowmobile with Steamboat Snowmobile Tours, or taking a snowshoeing tour with Steamboat Lake Outpost, your winter dreams are all about to come true!

A Meal to Remember
Before you head back to the place you started your journey earlier this morning, end your time in Steamboat Springs with a meal you will never forget at Café Diva. Located at 1855 Ski Time Square Drive and offering an all-American menu filled with elevated dining options, it doesn’t matter what season you’re visiting; dinner here will be exactly what your special occasion deserves! Offering a strong wine menu and some classic cocktails that are perfect for toasting, the menus change with the season, but they only change for the better.
A Night You Will Never Forget
We sincerely hope that your day trip will include at least one night exploring the luxury and comfort of our Grand Adventure Company vacation retreats.
